Insights into how I write, where my characters come from, and more!

Hey everybody! Welcome back to my Blog! In this post I wanted to give you an idea about how I write and how I come up with my characters. Many authors start with a story idea and then plot out each chapter and paragraph, etc so they know ahead of time which direction they are headed in. Now, this doesn't mean that they never deviate from their storyline because many times they do but they tend to come right back into their plotline after a little sidetrack. These people are called "Plotters" and they like to be organized and know their direction ahead of time. Well, anyone who knows me will tell you that I am definitely not an organized person! I fall into the other category of authors called "Pantsers." These people usually have a basic idea of their story and then they just sit down at their computer and start writing and see where they end up! I guess because I "see' my story like a movie as I write it, it just makes sense to me to just sort of go with the flow. Now even I have a basic idea of my beginning and my ending, it's just everything in between that comes to life as I write.

People ask me where I come up with my characters and I must admit that I base most of my characters on real people that I know. In my newest book, Blood Feud Book One: Blood is Thicker Than Water, I actually had family members and friends ask me to write them into my book. Of course I change their names and maybe a few characteristics but, if you know these people you will be able to spot them in my book. I still create a lot of characters in my imagination but it's funny when someone that is "in" my book contacts me all excited because they recognized themselves!

Well, that gives you a basic idea of how I write and come up with characters. Now, tell me what you would like to see in my next blogpost. Upcoming projects, more info on me like maybe how I was in one of the worst TV shows ever made! Or maybe it's something totally different. Just shoot me an email or leave me a message on Facebook at J. Michael Vagott- Author. Until next time, I hope you have a wonderful day! Write your story!
